Are you a skilled welder? Does working for a growing small business interest you? We are looking for an experienced welder to cut and join metals at our Charlottesville facility and at construction sites for custom steel, stainless steel, and aluminum railing and stair applications. The ideal candidate will also have a steady hand, great attention to detail, and quality comes first attitude. Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is a plus.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to make a fabrication plan
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method to use based on requirements
  • Set up components for welding according to specifications
  • Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
  • Align components using calipers, rules etc. and clamp pieces
  • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizonal or overhead)
  • Inspect welded surfaces/structure to discover flaws and repair as required
  • Finish welds using electric and/or pneumatic grinding/sanding pads
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety


  • Minimum 3 years of welding experience
  • Proven at welding bar stock, sheet metal, and plates; primarily steel, stainless steel and aluminum
  • Hands on experience with grinding equipment and welding in metal fabrication setting
  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MIG, etc.)
  • Experience using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
  • Knowledge of relevant safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shields, gloves etc.)
  • Proficient in English
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program is preferred
  • Professional Certification (e.g., an AWS Welder certificate) is a plus
  • Be able to lift 70 lbs.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $20.00- $25.00/hour, based on experience

  • Normal work hours are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday; overtime is available
